Alexis

For those of you who know my children, you know they can be very stubborn. I have no idea where they get that from, but they are. :) This series of pictures cracked me up and I had to share. Alexis (she is the easiest to break when she is being stubborn) didn't want to stand still to have her picture taken. In only two minutes she went from a determined stubborn child pulling away from Missy (the arm trying to hold Lexi still for a picture), to a happy child posing for the camera. What fun!!

Hunter's Birthday

Tuesday was Hunter's birthday. Happy 8th birthday kiddo!

Hunter is such a wonderful son. He is so thoughtful and caring, especially with his sisters. He is kind and gentle and is a great friend. He is a very smart boy and loves to learn. He is a good student and his teachers love him and praise him for how he behaves in class and how kind and respectful he is to other students and teachers. Keep up the good work son! We love you so much!

Hunter loves Star Wars (he has seen episodes 1, 2, 4, 5, and 6), Indiana Jones (has never seen it but other kids talk about it so it must be cool), video games, Disney movies, Legos, playing outside with his friends, cousins, or sisters, the Utah Jazz and BYU. (there was no influence from his dad...no really) :)

Hunter earned a voucher from school (I think it was from school) for a free meal from Chili's a while back, so that is where he wanted to go for his birthday. Here are some pictures from dinner:

Demolition Derby

This week is the Davis County Fair. Last week I looked at the schedule and saw that the demolition derby was last night. Since Missy and the kids had their own demolition derby recently, I thought the kids would enjoy the REAL thing. We did have a good time and there were plenty of strange people to watch between the heats. :) The derby started at 7:30 and moved a bit slow in my opinion so at almost 9:00 when they hadn't even started the "main event" we packed it in and headed home. Here are some pictures of the fun:

And this is what happens when the kids are taking the pictures:

I am so proud of Hunter for his great form in this self portrait!! :)

24th of July

Last night for the 24th of July we did fireworks in our cul-de-sac with our next door neighbors, the Dicksons. We had a great time and so did the kids. Alexis was so excited and after just about every firework fizzled out she would run to me and ask for more. In fact, you can see her in action in the last picture below.

Here are some pictures of the event:

Memory Game

1. As a comment on my blog, leave one memory (or more) that you and I had together. It doesn't matter if you knew me a little or a lot, anything you remember!

2. Next, re-post these instructions on your blog and see how many people leave a memory about you. If you leave a memory about me, I'll assume you're playing (but you don't have to) and I'll come to your blog and leave one about you.

Yellowstone - Day 1

Well, it is the end of day 1 of our big Yellowstone adventure. First, I'm happy to report the Yukon (back from the shop after four weeks of repairs) made it just fine with no issues. None that we noticed anyway. :)

Day 1

11:10 - We finished packing up the rig, stopped by the bank, and headed off to drop Sausies off at Russ and Sue's house to be taken care of while we are gone.

12:00 - Leave Russ and Sue's house to head for West Yellowstone!

12:02 - "Dad, are we almost there yet?" (repeated every 1.8 minutes) :)

5:20 - Arrived at the Kelly Inn. Unloaded the Yukon, put kids and Missy in long pants (56 degrees and rainy on and off), and loaded back up to head for dinner.

6:20 - The Outpost appeared to be a Mom and Pop type of shop and we thought it would be great. It turned out to be mediocre at best, but it filled our bellies up.

7:25 - I was headed back to the motel because I was ready for bed. I was instructed that we were going into Yellowstone for a while and THEN we could head back for bed.

7:30 - Being the obedient husband that I am, I headed directly around the corner to Yellowstone. After only a few minutes this is what we saw:

8:25 - Heading back to the west entrance of Yellowstone there was an amazing sunset. The pictures don't do it justice, but here they are anyway:

9:40 - Back at the motel room, we were trying our best to keep the kids quiet when Hunter jumped out of bed holding his mouth. He had wiggled his loose tooth (number 7) so hard that it had fallen out! Great job Hunter! The newest missing tooth is the upper empty spot. Now he is waiting anxiously for the three missing teeth to come back in so he can eat normally again. :)

It's too bad we didn't warn the Tooth Fairy that we would be at the Kelly Inn in West Yellowstone. He'll have to wait until we get home to have her visit.

Now we'll try our best to get some sleep...

Makeup

Missy and I have been really amazed at how different each of our children are. With Hunter and Amelia we were very lucky in that neither of them really got into things when they were small(er). The drawers were safe...the cupboards were safe...Missy's purse was safe...

Our sweet little blond hair blue eyed child is very different than her siblings in many ways including her hair and eyes. She definately likes to get into anything and everything. Today she went down to the kitchen, moved a chair to the counter, got into her mother's purse, took out the lipstick and...well, here is what she did.

Isn't she beautiful!

He did it!

Well, the fat lip was finally worth it! Last night at baseball Hunter got his first hit and first run! It was so much fun for him. The other kids on his team and their parents were all so excited and cheered for him like crazy. Each batter after him had a base hit so when he finally crossed home plate for his first run all of the parents and kids cheered him on again and it was hard for him to keep a straight face. He really doesn't like to be in the spotlight so he came over to us quickly for a round of high 5s. It was also great that his Grandpa Bob and Grandma Cathy could be there to see him on such a great night.

What a great feeling it is for a parent to see their child succeed at something that hasn't come easy for them. Hunter has struggled with hitting the ball this year (he's a bit nervous about that pitching machine) but has been good about practicing and it is finally paying off. I know it is hard for him to see the big picture, but for me I can look back at his determiniation and sticktoitivness (than might not be a real word :) ) over the past month or so and see it all coming together for him. After experiences like this Missy and I try to help him look at what his hard work has helped him accomplish. I understand that hitting a baseball isn't a big deal in the grand scheme of things, but it sure does illustrate a much larger life lesson. I hope that lesson sinks in for him and for me.

A big thanks to his coaches also. They are so patient with him and have worked so well with him and given him so much encouragement. The only bummer of the night was that his head coach Brett wasn't there to witness the hit first hand, but his wife was so she filled him in.

Fat Lip

Well, since a picture is worth a thousand words:

Hunter got hit good in the mouth tonight at baseball practice. After he freaked out for a few minutes, I got a cold pack out of the first aid kit in my truck and he held it on his lip. I was really proud of him though...after he held the cold pack on his lips for a few minutes he reluctantly went back and finished practice. Sometimes being a kid is tough.

Kids are funny

So we were driving to the Jazz game on Friday night and there was a commercial that came on the radio...maybe you've heard it. There is a father and daughter talking about being basketball bffs (best friends forever if you don't know). The commercial ends and Hunter pipes up from the back of the Yukon:

"Dad".
"Yeah pal?"
"Um, when baseball starts can we be baseball b-f-fs?"

Of course my answer was yes! What a funny kid! It just proves that kids are always listening when you least expect it.

Oh, and here we are at the Jazz game. It was the first time all five of us had gone. Alexis was the busiest as usual, but between the popcorn and the ice cream they all had a good time.

MS Walk

Every year the National Multiple Sclerosis Society has a fundraiser called the MS Walk. This fundraiser event is important for many reasons, but since Missy and her mom have MS it is especially important to our family. Unfortunately there is no known cure for MS right now. There has been lots of progress made over the years, but there is much more work/research to be done and that takes money.

For the past few years we have wanted to participate, but either we were out of town or we found out too late when the event was to be held. I'm happy to report that this year we are participating in the MS Walk! We have started a team and would love for any friends or family members who feel so inclined to either join us in the walk or sponsor us. You can get more information here:

Library fun

Amelia's preschool class had a field trip to the Salt Lake City Library a few weeks ago. The Governor's wife was there to film a commercial and she sat down with the kids and interacted with them. You can see the pictures here: link

Amelia is the brunette sitting on Mrs. Huntsman's lap in the first picture and Alexis is the blond with the pink shirt on. They had a great time at the library and Alexis didn't even scream enough to get them kicked out!!

21st Birthday

As I mentioned previously, we went to Vegas to celebrate Drew's 21st birthday. Drew brought one of his friends, Dan, with him also. (This information is important as you'll see in just a minute)

On Friday night we had a birhtday bash for Drew. Ma and Pa ordered pizza (well, Megan did the actual ordering and I hold her personally responsible for at least 5 of the pounds I gained in Vegas!) and they also bought a nice Oreo cake for the birthday boy. So close your eyes (well not really 'cuz if you did you couldn't read this) and imagine us all singing happy birthday to Drew as Cathy carries the cake to him to blow out the candles. Here's her baby boy all grown up! The moment arrives and Drew takes a big breath, blows out the candles and gets a big smile on his face. Surrounded by family and a close friend he is so happy. Cathy gets ready to head back to the kitchen to cut the cake for all to enjoy when the cake slips...will it land on Drew...will it hit the floor...will she catch it??

Poor Dan, he was sitting too close to the birthday boy. Oh, meet Dan...he's the one with the cake on him. :) Thankfully, Julianna and Megan did a full CSI investigation to determine which parts of the cake were edible and many mounths enjoyed the Oreo cake afterall. :)

Oh, and just in case you were wondering...Dan does have a face:
